What is the skill level of players who attend the Pro Baseball Clinic?

We extend a warm welcome to players of all skill levels and playing experience, ages 13 and up.

All you need is a true love of the game, a sincere desire to improve your baseball skills, and gain a better working knowledge of the game. Over 4 days, you will get one-on-one instruction from some of today’s best Major League coaches.

Many attendees compete in adult baseball leagues throughout the country (MSBL, NABA, Roy Hobbs, etc.). There are wide ranges of playing abilities and ages. Some guys played in high school but haven’t picked up a baseball since. They’re considering getting back on the diamond and want to brush up on the fundamentals. A few played college baseball way back when, while others haven’t played baseball since Little League. Others attend just to absorb as much baseball knowledge as they can, so they can pass on it to their kids. Every year we get a few high school baseball coaches who want to better their communication skills and gain more insight into the finer aspects of the game.

We get an enormous amount of repeat players every year. Pro Ball has been around since 2002, so it’s become a yearly reunion of baseball friendship for many of the guys.

Over the past few years, players have started to bring their teenage sons to Pro Ball. To spend 4 days on the diamond with your son, being taught by Major League coaches, is an amazing father-son experience. If you’re a dad or a teenage player, please view the father-son video on the home page. We’d love to have you join us.

The bottom line is, don’t worry about “not being good enough” to participate.

Don’t be intimidated by the fact they Major League coaches are your instructors. You will be amazed at the patience of the coaches. You’ll find these fine gentlemen to be some of the nicest, most dedicated and passionate teachers you’ll ever encounter. At the risk of sounding corny, they really care about making you a better player or coach. You have to experience the clinic for yourself to know what I’m talking about.

The next Pro Ball Baseball Clinic is January 13-16, 2017 at the San Diego Padres spring training complex in Peoria, AZ.

There will be another Pro Ball Baseball Clinic held in Florida (facility site and dates TDB). The FL clinic will probably take place sometime before the AZ clinic.

The clinics are fashioned after actual Major League spring training routines, with rotating hitting stations, tee work, numerous hitting drills, live BP, situational BP and machine BP. You will probably take more swings in your 4 days at Pro Ball than you have in the past 4 years! On defense, the coaches focus on individual and team defense drills.  Pitchers will work one-on-one with Major League pitching coaches to improve mechanics, command and pitch grips. Catchers do blocking and agility drills with Major League catching instructors. Rob Picciolo, Alan Trammell and Brook Jacoby are our infield coaches. Lee Tinsley, Alonzo Powell and Eric Owens instruct the outfielders.

Under the guidance of Major League coaches, you will leave the Pro Ball Baseball Clinic a better baseball player!

Do I have to stick to one position the entire clinic?

Absolutely not. In fact, we encourage you to try different positions and expand your knowledge of the game. You will get to play every position you want. Some guys have never caught before and want to try it. How about having the Mets catching instructor as your 1st teacher? Please select your favorite 2 positions in the registration form. That will help give us organize our Day 1 defensive rotations.

What are the hotel accommodations?

The FL Pro Ball Baseball Clinic will be held at the Pittsburgh Pirates facility in Bradenton, FL.

One of the beautiful things about Pirate City is that it is a self-contained facility, with hotel rooms, dining and baseball facilities all on-site.

The Pro Ball Baseball Clinic fee of $2895 includes your hotel room (based on double occupancy) and all meals.

If you want a single room, there is an additional fee of $400.

Single rooms will be reserved on a first come, first served basis.

Please note there are no smoking rooms available.

Can I request a roommate?

Absolutely. If you want to room with a certain player, let us know in the registration form. All efforts will be made to meet your request. Make sure you guys talk about rooming together before completing the form to avoid any confusion.

What equipment should I bring?

The Pro Ball baseball Clinic is NOT a fantasy camp.

The sole purpose of Pro Ball (besides having a GREAT time) is to improve your baseball skills and learn the game from Major League coaches.

We do not provide uniforms.

It is suggested that you bring two pair of baseball pants, a jock and cup, a couple of baseball undershirts, at least one baseball shirt and a pair of spikes.

Bring sneakers or turf shoes for the indoor hitting cages (do NOT wear spikes in the cages).

All your baseball-related laundry will be done on a daily basis. Bring as many gloves you like, depending on what positions you want to work on.

Bring your own bats (metal and wood are fine) and your own batting helmet (helmets will also be provided).

The Padres and Pirates clubhouse attendants sells pro grade wooden bats (MUCH better than you can buy in a sporting goods store) for only $35 each – a GREAT deal.

Catchers should bring all their own gear.

Have other questions?

I’d be happy to answer any question you may have over the phone or by email.

Please call John Rubinow at 323-333-8798 or email me.

Thank you for your interest in the Pro Ball Baseball Clinic.

Does the clinic use video?

Yes. The Pro Ball Baseball Clinic uses state a of the art video system to record your hitting and pitching mechanics. Your video will be analyzed by one of the hitting coaches in a one-on-one session and emailed to you. You’ll have a great take home piece of “baseball evidence” to watch again and again during the season. You may also bring a usb thumb drive to record your sessions.

Can we take videos at pro ball?

Personal videos may be taken but ONLY outside (e.g., baseball fields, practice areas, hitting cages, pitching mounds, etc.). Videos may NOT be taken inside the Padres or Orioles facilities (e.g., clubhouse, trainer’s room , meeting rooms, video room or dining facility, etc.). This policy will be strictly enforced. The Pro Ball Baseball Clinic is a special 4-day experience with Major League coaches. During meetings or at lunch or dinner, coaches may talk about topics that are considered “for clubhouse ears only.” WHAT YOU SEE AND SAY AT PRO BALL STAYS AT PRO BALL. Coaches have expressed to me their concern about videos showing up on the internet. It is my responsibility to see that never happens. Any and all personal videos taken during the Pro Ball Baseball Clinic are considered property of Voice Doctor, Inc. and may not be uploaded to the internet without express written consent from John Rubinow.  Thank you for your understanding.

Are there trainers at the clinic?

Yes. We have always had certified athletic trainers at the Pro Ball Baseball Clinic. These gentlemen have extensive experience treating professional baseball players and their injuries. The FL clinic will be staffed with a least 2 certified trainers with experience in treating professional baseball players.

Know that you will be in great hands with the trainers we have on staff. The training staff leads players through their morning and afternoon stretches before taking the fields. You will have a great time at Pro Ball, but you’ll also be taking a lot of swings, fielding a lot of ground balls and fly balls and doing drill work you may not be used to. Don’t be surprised if your body is sore after the first day or two.

Participants at the FL clinic will have access to professional training rooms as well, with ice tubs and whirlpools. Whether it’s a blister on your hand, a tight shoulder or hamstring or whatever ….use the trainers! They are there to get you back on the field, so you can enjoy your time at Pro Ball to the fullest.
