• Q. What Is the Skill Level of the Players Who Attend the Pro Ball Baseball Clinic?

We extend a warm welcome to players of all abilities and playing experience. There are many guys who play in various adult leagues throughout the country (MSBL, NABA, Roy Hobbs, etc.). They have a wide range of baseball skill levels. There are some guys who played in high school but haven’t played since and are curious about getting back on the diamond. There are also some guys who haven’t played since Little League. Some bring their teenage sons who are playing in high school or college. We have many repeat players every year. I know their skill levels. To be fair to everyone, I try and group the more advanced players together. Bottom line is, don’t worry about “not being good enough” to participate. This clinic is all about learning.

The Advanced Skills Clinic will be held December 27-30, 2011 at the Texas Rangers spring training facility in Surprise, AZ.

The Fundamentals Clinic will be held January 13-16, 2012 at the San Diego Padres spring training complex in Peoria, AZ.

Ego should not factor into which clinic you attend. It’s not like one clinic is “better” than the other. It’s all about selecting the clinic that is best suited to your ability and your baseball goals. We want you to get the most out of your experience as possible and selecting the proper clinic is paramount.

The Advanced Skills Clinic is specifically geared for more the experienced player with good baseball skills. The typical participant is a JV or varsity high school player who wants to crack the varsity starting line-up or a starting varsity player who wants to play collegiate baseball and needs to improve his skill set to catch the eye of recruiters. The Advanced Skills Clinic is also for the MABL, MSBL or NABA player who still plays at a very high level.

If you haven’t attended a Pro Ball Baseball Clinic before and think the Advanced Clinic is right for you, please call John Rubinow at 323-333-8798 to discuss your baseball background. Our goal is to place you in the clinic that will best serve your baseball needs. You shouldn’t be intimidated by the Advanced Skills Clinic, but you should be at a skill similar to the other players. The December clinic is fashioned after a Major League spring training. You will be pushed by these Major League coaches and you will see improvement in your swing, your defense and for those pitchers, your mechanics and command.

The Fundamentals Clinic, January 13-16, 2012, is open to all players of all skill levels. All ll you need is a sincere love of the game and a true desire to improve what baseball skills you possess. You will learn from some of the best baseball teachers in the world. Some of the participants play in organized leagues (e.g., MSBL, NABA, Roy Hobbs, etc), while others have not played baseball in many years but are thinking of getting back into the game. Some come to gain baseball knowledge that they can pass on to their kids, while others coach high school and youth baseball and want more insight into the finer aspects of the game.

If you haven’t played baseball in a while (and I do NOT mean softball), I strongly suggest you begin throwing every day to get your arm and shoulder in shape. Play catch with someone or just throw a hard rubber baseball against a wall. I cannot overemphasize the importance of just repeating the throwing motion to build up the shoulder musculature. Also, start a daily regimen of core strengthening, upper & lower extremity stretching, including the adductors (groin) and your butt muscles. The last thing you’ll want to do is throw out your arm or pull a hamstring or groin during your four days at the clinic.

Remember to take it easy the first day out on the field. I promise that you will get your fill of baseball over the four days. You will probably take more swings in 4 days than you have in the past 4 years! Don’t go out there and blister your hands the first day. Pace yourself.

  • Q. What is the Cost and Payment Schedule?

The cost for the 4-day Pro Ball Baseball Clinic is $2795 (includes double occupancy hotel and all meals) . Despite rising costs, we have managed to keep the same price for several years. You are responsible for all travel-related costs. If you want a single hotel room, there is additional charge of $500. The initial deposit of $500 is due by July 1, 2012. The second $500 deposit is due October 1, 2012. Your balance is due on January 2, 2013.

Space is very limited, as there is a large percentage of repeat participants every year. I strongly suggest you secure your spot as early as possible to avoid being shut out.

  • Q. Are There Discounts?

Yes. We offer 4 different discounts: a “Wives & Girlfriends” Discount, a “Bring a Friend” Referral Discount, a “Father-Son” Discount and a Group Discount. Please see the home page for details. Please note we no longer offer the Early Bird Discount, the First-Timer Discounts or the “No Hotel” discount (unless you are living full-time in the greater Phoenix area).. For the Group Discount (6 or more first-time participants), please call me for details).  Please note that all discounts come off your final balance owed, not the required deposits.

  • Q. Do I Have to Stick to One Position the Entire Clinic?

Absolutely not. In fact, we encourage you to try different positions and get exposure to as many coaches as possible over the 4 days. You will get to play every position you want. Some guys have never caught before and want to try it. How about having the catching instructor for the Arizona Diamondbacks or the Toronto Blue Jays as your first teacher? Glen Sherlock, bullpen coach and catching instructor of the Diamondbacks (and former Yankees catching instructor) and Don Wakamatsu, bench coach of the Toronto Blue Jays, are two of the best catching instructors in baseball.

Please select your favorite two positions in the registration form. That will help give us the information we need to organize our defensive rotations the first day.

  • Q. What are the Hotel Accommodations?

There are several hotels within walking distance to the Peoria Sports Complex. We have always used the La Quinta Inn and Suites, primarily because of its proximity to the Peoria Sports Complex, but I am open to finding a new hotel for the January 2013 clinic. Whatever hotel we choose, it will be within walking distance to the ballpark.

The Pro Ball Baseball Clinic fee includes hotel accommodations, based on double occupancy. An additional $500 fee will be charged if a single room is requested and reserved. There is no guarantee that single rooms will be available. Single rooms will be reserved on a first come, first served basis. There are no smoking rooms available.

  • Q. Can I Request a Roommate?

Absolutely. If you want to room with a certain player, let us know in the registration form. All efforts will be made to meet your request. Make sure you guys talk about rooming together before completing the form to avoid any confusion.

  • Q. What Equipment Should I Bring?

Please note that this is NOT a fantasy camp. We do not provide uniforms. It is suggested that you bring two pair of baseball pants, a jock and cup, a couple of baseball undershirts, at least one baseball shirt and a pair of spikes. Also, bring sneakers or turf shoes for the hitting tunnels, as wearing spikes in the batting cages will wear on your feet. All your baseball-related laundry will be done on a daily basis and your spikes will be shined. Bring as many gloves you like, depending on what positions you want to work on. Bring your own bats (metal and wood are fine) and your own batting helmet. The Padres will sell great wood bats for $25 each. The Padres will also supply some of their batting helmets but it is advised you bring your own. Catchers should bring all their own gear.  Finally, bring a new 1GB memory stick so we can download your video footage.

  • Q. What is the Cancellation Policy?

Mailed cancellations must be sent to the following address:

    Pro Ball Baseball Clinic

For the January 10-13, 2013 clinic, a $500 initial deposit is required by July 1, 2013 to reserve your spot. An additional $500 deposit will be due before 10-1-13. Those paying after 11-1-13 must pay in full. Due to the extraordinary nature of this clinic involving Major League coaches, the initial $500 deposit fee is NON-REFUNDABLE. Subsequent payments will be credited only toward the very next clinic only.  If you cancel after Dec. 1, 2012, no refund or credit will be given.

If you are concerned about not being able to attend for any reason whatsoever, it is strongly suggested that you look into buying travel insurance.

  • Q. What is the Typical Daily Schedule?

  • Q. Have Other Questions?

We’d be happy to answer any question you may have over the phone or by email. Call John Rubinow at 323-333-8798 or email him.

Thank you for your interest in the Pro Ball Baseball Clinic.

  • Q. Does the Clinic Use Video?

Yes. The Pro Ball Baseball Clinic uses state of the art video from T2 Motion to record your swings and pitching motion. Your video is then analyzed by one of the hitting and/or pitching coaches in a one-on-one session. The coaches’ audio commentary is recorded as well, so you have a great take home piece of “baseball evidence” to watch again and again during the season.
